Welcome to ENGAGE

ENGAGE_YOUTH: digital tools for participation and active citizenship (or “ENGAGE”) is a continuing professional development (CPD) programme for European youth workers who are interested in exploring how digital tools can help support and enhance their practice.  Watershed is delighted to have the opportunity to deliver the programme in partnership with the civic authorities of Aarhus (Denmark), Hannover (Germany) and Amaroussion (Greece), and we are very much looking forward to exchanging experience and learning from one another.

The programme is structured in to three modules.

The first addresses the rise of social media and online networks and their impact on youth culture.  This module will support ENGAGE participants to develop approaches that acknowledge the opportunities and challenges for youth work inherent in these new media. This module is programmed by Watershed and includes a 4-day residential in Bristol, UK in July 2010.

The second module explores technology-enabled approaches to engaging young people as active citizens, and will support participants to learn about and develop new ways to encourage young people to contribute meaningfully to democratic processes.  This module is programmed by the Resource Centre for Educational Development in Aarhus, Denmark, and includes a 4-day residential in Aarhus.

The third module will introduce ENGAGE participants to new approaches that use digital tools to help extend and amplify young voices.  Participants learn from innovative youth projects that have used podcasting and online broadcast to disseminate young people’s opinions and creative work, and will benefit from hands-on practical workshops.  This module is programmed by Medienhaus-Hannover and includes a 4-day residential in Hannover.

Further module details will soon be posted on this site on the programme page.

We are looking forward to meeting the twenty youth workers from across Europe who will be participating in this programme and are currently open to enquiries/applications.  All interested please contact engage@watershed.co.uk.

Until next time,

Gwen Joy – Programme Manager
