Stephanie Hubbard

Photo of Stephanie HubbardI am a graduate in European Film and World Cinema from the University of Exeter and have always had a passion for social justice and community development. My voluntary work with charities overseas in Nicaragua, India and the Democratic Republic of Congo has cemented this passion into a vocation.

Since graduating I have had two years experience in co-ordinating youth volunteering and campaigning projects on a voluntary basis for charities such as Oxfam and Christian Aid. This involved utilising social networking and filmmaking to engage young people in campaigning and peer education on every topic from HIV and climate change to international development. These are skills I use daily in my work for the British Red Cross on the Positive Images project in Bristol. Positive Images is an EU funded initiative aiming to encourage young people to have positive image of refugees and other migrants in their communities through mythbusting, empathy building and multi-media action projects. The project is also linked with other partner Red Cross Societies in Denmark and Austria and we regularly share learning and good practise on how to engage young people across Europe in these issues.

I also work part-time as a Youth Support Worker for Bread Youth Project on a project called UNITY, co-ordinating projects for 11-25 year olds that celebrate diversity and promote cultural awareness across the city.  We have a wide range of opportunities for young people from documenting community events by creating film and audio pieces for our blog to longer term peer education projects in schools exploring culture, identity and promoting respect and understanding between groups.
