I am a development worker for a healthy living initiative, focused on working with young people in rural areas on health issues. I am also a volunteer befriender, working with young people who have been involved in the criminal justice system.

I got involved in youth work as a result of my original career in marketing and digital communications. Whilst working on an interactive CD project with homeless young people, I met someone who challenged and inspired me to make a difference to other young people’s lives. Subsequently I became a volunteer and eventually changed career path to become a youth worker.

I have approximately 15 years experience of youth work in a variety of roles, within the voluntary and statutory sector including 4 years as a detached youth worker on alternatives to alcohol and 3 years as a marketing officer.

In my current role I focus on working with young people on sexual and mental health issues. Innovative projects I have been responsible for include the “Sun, Sea, Sangria and (Safer) Sex” DVD, “Talk to Me” mental health drama and Find Out Youth Health Drop In. In 2010 I was awarded a YouthLink Scotland award for Youth Health Worker of the Year.
