- Overcome national stereotypes; get to know people as individuals
- Give time and space for people to find the right words
- Speak slowly – “it’s okay to say I don’t understand”; help each other to translate
- Mingle – mix up the group; share as much as possible
- Be allowed to ask the question in your head
- All share responsibility for capturing discussions
- Be on time
- Be open and share experience, especially practical learning – KEEP CHECKING
- Keep an eye on how the group feels
- Have time for special questions
- Listening to each other and don’t interrupt
- Respectful debate
- Don’t assume knowledge and explain jargon
