The focus of our work is on youth education.

Therefore I’m designing and working in youth projects especially video interview projects focusing on themes like human rights or job descriptions. I’m working with pupils as well as young people of youth centres or other forms of open youth work.

Besides the aim to produce a video of an interview with a contemporary witness the young people get the chance to improve social and personal skills. Empathy and communication, team work and peer to peer learning should be improved as well as the use of modern techniques.

I`m 31, live in Stuttgart, Germany and work for the Youth Trust Baden-Wuerttemberg.

The Youth Trust Baden-Wuerttemberg supports committed young people to help them realise their ideas, initiatives and projects. Since 1982 almost 2000 youth work-projects have been funded by us with nearly 10 million Euros. Our schemes take on current social questions and create an innovative discourse with partners from the youth education sector and young people. Examples can be found at www.jugendnetz.de <http://www.jugendnetz.de> , www.jugendstiftung.de <http://www.jugendstiftung.de> .

We´ve already gained considerable experience with digital tools. The online platform “Freizeitwiki Baden-Wuerttemberg” (www.freizeitwiki.jugendnetz.de <http://www.freizeitwiki.jugendnetz.de> ) invites young people to share tips and information on what to do in the area; “Redax” allows young people to set up their own online-journal, organise their editorial office and staff, exchange articles with other journals, etc. Here is one of the results: f79.jnbw.de.

I´m keen on learning more about digital tools for participation and active citizenship and getting to know other European projects.

„Medienhaus„ (and its predecessor „VVK„), has been active in the field of international cultural exchange for 25 years, working for institutions like Goethe Institut, InterNationes, The Franco-German Youth Office (FGYO) etc.
According to the by-laws, the aim of this registered society is the advancement of media art and culture. The members of staff, such as E. Kähne, have been trained for international exchange.
Since 1982, they have been active in France, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Finland, Egypt, Turkey etc. Since 1987, they expanded their work to Eastern European countries (such as Russia and the Baltic states) with great success, for instance a media class in Karaganda, Kazakhstan in 2002 / 2003. (Films and texts see www.net-view.tv , real server necessary).
All films were broadcast on Kazakh Television. The public service French-German TV-Station „Arte„ brought their own crew to document the exchange for their programme. Further, films and texts on cultural identity have been produced in many other countries.

„Medienhaus‰ provides vocational training for digital media designers and is officially approved by The Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) Hanover-Hildesheim. Currently it qualifies unemployed people in the media field. For further films and texts about our cultural work please see www.net-view.tv.
„Medienhaus„ was one of the pioneers establishing new formats of broadcasting on the internet and was therein supported financially by the state of Lower Saxony for several years.

Since spring 2007, „Medienhaus„ is an official partner for media skills and media literacy of the city of Hanover according to a decision of the city council. In this context, the podcast-project for youths, „Abdrehen Hannover„, has started in January 2008 in co-operation with the department of education and qualification, „Haus der Jugend„ (House of the Youth), N 21 and „Medienbus„ (Media Bus).

E. Kähne, staff member and artistic director of „Medienhaus„, who has worked amonst others for Goethe Institut in Africa since 1990, has established many new contacts during his stays in Namibia and South Africa over the last seven years. These also resulted in an exhibition called „Blickpunkt Südafrika„ (Focus South Africa) which made possible the first presentation of all films by world-famous South African photographer Jürgen Schadeberg, an old friend of Nelson Mandela. His films have been distributed by „Medienhaus”.
