Bristol Festival of School Sport, March 2009
Tim Crawley, eShed co-ordinator at Watershed, and Patrick Young, eShed member, worked with a group of Young Ambassadors and Media Students from Ashton Park School to film the Bristol Festival of School Sport at Combe Dingle Sports Complex in Bristol and edited the footage during a workshop session to be held at Watershed.

RELAYS schools sports co-ordinator Robbie Fox is based at Bristol University and told us that the 2009 Bristol Festival of School Sport has become one of the first projects of any kind in the UK to be awarded the ‘Inspired by 2012 Olympic Logo’. This logo is awarded to projects and events that will help the London 2012 Organising Committee to deliver ‘the Games’ lasting legacy right across the UK’. The Festival has been granted the right to use this logo and become part of the Inspire Programme through a gradual application process.

Bristol Festival of School Sport
This year the Festival involved 18 secondary schools and almost 1,500 pupils.
Robbie explained that many of these pupils will not be overly confident in playing sport and having the chance to be in a competition or event. “Perhaps they will not have had the chance to represent their school before. They may also be pupils who don’t particularly like PE in school time or who don’t enjoy sport or physical activity outside of school time”. But this Festival can provide a positive experience for the young people involved and the film aims to reflect the participants’ different responses to the opportunities that they’ve had. Taster sessions were available in a wide range of sports and activities from Frisbee, Street Dance and Cycling to Table Tennis, Golf and Rugby.
