Short Cuts films – premiere event at Watershed
After seven months, all the hard work by our 3 groups of young filmmakers was showcased at a special event at Watershed on Sunday 21st November. The 3 excellent films, Counterpunch, Frank and Chris, and Tick Tock were well received by an enthusiastic full house of friends, family and project supporters. The event was part of the Fresh Flix strand presented by Watershed and Encounters International FIlm Festival. Amongst the audience were two BAFTA mentors – courtesy of the Media Trust – who provided some valuable feedback to the young filmmakers, great to have media industry professionals seeing top quality work made by Bristol’s young creatives.
The First Light funded project, with support from RELAYS, saw Watershed team up with Knowle West Media Centre, Young Bristol and Connexions to deliver the Short Cuts programme, encouraging young people from different neighbourhoods to work together to develop ideas, have fun and build skills in digital media and project management. Young people, aged 14 – 18, from Knowle West Media Centre, Bristol Foyer and Fast Forward have taken part and the programme has included workshops with industry professionals and visits to professional studios and environments. The programme ran regularly after school from Wed 26 May, and production took place over the summer holidays, each group providing different interpretations of the project’s themes, the Olympic values of friendship, excellence and respect.
The films will be posted online in the New Year, please come back then to watch the talented young people’s work, meanwhile go the Gallery to see photographs of the premiere event.
