To celebrate the arrival of the Olympic Torch this May in Bristol, filmmakers are invited to create quality short films in just 117 hours based in and focused on Sports, Games and Play in the city.

This high-energy event will encourage visual storytelling and will promote Bristol as a filming and sporting location, presented by Bristol City Council, Bristol Film Office, Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival and M Shed, inspired by London 2012 as part of the Cultural Olympiad in partnership with Relays, Legacy Trust and Watershed.

From 19 May, we will challenge filmmakers to make a short film up to three minutes long (either drama, documentary, experimental, live action or animation) in 117 hours. Films must be of cinematic quality and be suitable for pre-watershed viewing. Each film must contain some elements of the three themes that are the core of the M Shed museum but with the overall theme of Sport, Games and Play.

Bristol Film Office are securing locations in the city with all location fees waived for participants of the challenge. (These will be finalised in April and available for pre-booking on the 14th May.)

The challenge has been granted the London 2012 Inspire mark which recognises outstanding projects and events helping deliver the Games’ lasting legacy. Part of the London 2012 brand family, it is the badge of the wider Inspire programme which has sport at its heart and London at its centre, but it is more than London and more than sport. It is for London and the UK, for sport and culture, for education, volunteering and business opportunities.

The finished films will form part of the city’s memory, and will join the M Shed museum collections, so that they will be available to view by visitors in the future. They will be screened as part of a celebratory event at the museum on Friday 25 May.

One film will be selected by a distinguished jury and awarded a prize of £1,000 cash. To find out more and to take part visit the Encounters 0117 Film Challenge site

Well its march and the weather is looking nice and spring looks like its going to free us from winter any day now.
We will have a whole host of new games for you to come and play in the upcoming year but here’s a reminder of some of last years best loved games. I’ve put together a 90 second video of igfest 08. As the festival had 23 city sized games over 3 days this 90 sec video is just a snippet. I hope you enjoy it though, and I look forward to seeing you all again at this years festival.
