The Fire This Time Panel
Please note: This event took place in Feb 2015
Inspired by writer and essayist James Baldwin and the release of Ava Du Vernay’s Selma, this panel challenges 'closure' in cinematic depictions of Civil Rights. With inequality and racism still rife on both sides of the Atlantic, speakers will explore how the past still speaks to us dynamically, as we struggle for legislative change in the present. Join in this discussion hosted by writer and historian Dr Edson Burton with guests including Labour and mayoral candidate Marvin Rees whose commitment to social justice is informed by the work and vision of Dr Martin Luther King and Shakira Lewis, a PhD candidate and researcher at the University of Bristol currently exploring issues of race and ethnicity.
Ticket prices: £5.50 full / £4.00 concessions. Special offer: get a ticket for this event and a ticket to the 17:40 screening of Selma for £10.00 full / £8.00 concessions. Apologies, you cannot buy the offer online - to book this offer please call Box Office on 0117 927 5100 or visit in person.
