Tapping into very heartland of the folk noir tradition, Mike Nichols' film is a rich and vibrant thriller-come-coming of age tale set in the American Deep South. Matthew McConaughey is Mud, a dangerous but charismatic fugitive hiding out from bounty hunters on a remote uninhabited island on the Mississippi. Discovered living on a boat in a tree by two teenage boys, Ellis (Tye Sheridan) and Neckbone (Jacob Lofland), an unlikely friendship forms as the boys struggle to help Mud escape his pursuers and reunite him with his long lost love Juniper (Reese Witherspoon). Playing like a reworking of the adventures of Tom Sawyer for the Tarantino Generation, Mud captures the very best of classic American storytelling and the South, providing a rich backdrop for this captivating and timeless adventure.
