The violent and bloody folk-tradition ballads of the American West are transplanted to the Australian outback and given a contemporary thunderous shakedown from the imagination of musician Nick Cave in this modern bloody revenge tragedy. In the lawless setting of 1880’s Australia, Charlie Burns (Guy Pearce) and his simpleton younger brother Mikey (Richard Wilson), form two thirds of the notorious Burns Gang responsible for the brutal slaying of a family. After a furious gunfight, the pair are captured by Captain Stanley (Ray Winstone) and Charlie is given a proposition: to ensure Mikey’s survival he must find and kill their psychopathic brother Arthur (Danny Huston). Cave’s darkly poetic screenplay combined with Director John Hillcoat's measured, semi-mystical imagery delivers an intelligent and gripping story of bad blood, all wrapped up in Cave and Warren Ellis’ timeless music.
