Doctor Zhivago
classified PGPlease note: This was screened in Dec 2015
All the sweeps and stateliness (the breathtaking landscapes, multiple story arcs covering decades, grand historical themes and more) that characterised David Lean’s mastery of the epic (for something more restrained catch his Brief Encounter, which screens from Fri 6 – Sun 8 Nov) are here in this beautifully crafted story of love in the Russian revolution.
Told in flashbacks, his version of Boris Pasternak’s novel revolves around Zhivago (Omar Sharif), a married doctor and poet who falls for nurse Lara (Julie Christie) during the Great War. With Moscow transformed by the Revolution, however, their romance is disrupted by the upheaval taking place all around them. Will their love survive?
A romantic melodrama of huge proportions, this is a first-class, seductive cinema experience. Fall in love once again.
Please note screenings of Doctor Zhivago will include a 10 minute intermission. Part one: 2hrs / Part Two: 1hr 20mins.
We’re getting a new kitchen in December

We will still have a Soups and Sharing Platters menu and the bar will be open as usual but as the kitchen will be closed Cinebites is going to take a month’s break. Find out more here, including details of the schedule of work. Thank you for your patience in advance.
