Based on a true-story, this inspirational coming-of-age love story sees a young Indian student living with cerebral palsy leave India for New York where she falls for a fiery young female activist.
Laila (Kalki Koechlin) is a student and aspiring writer, crafting lyrics and electronic sounds for an indie band at her Delhi university. Whilst her cerebral palsy doesn't much get in the way of her own life, it can seem that it sometimes does for others. Always seeking more freedom and new experiences, when Laila wins a place at New York University to study music composition she decides to leave India for Manhattan along with her supporting mother. It’s there she meets fiery activist, Khanum (Sayani Gupta), someone who challenges her beliefs, sparks her creativity, and, eventually, takes her to bed. So begins a remarkable love story for these two inspiring women, albeit one that threatens chaos for Laila and her family.
A stunning portrait of women defying definitions and pushing boundaries, this is an empowering portrayal of a young woman navigating and discovering her bisexuality, making mistakes, and finding the unpredictable path of her own desire.
