Winner of the Golden Lion at Venice last year, Lorenzo Vigas’ first feature is a slow-burn thriller and Venezuelan gay love story.
Set in steamy Caracas, it’s the story of troubled Armando (the utterly brilliant Alfredo Castro of Tony Manero and Post Mortem fame) a wealthy 50-something professional who cruises the city streets for young men, and cocky 17-year-old Elder (Luis Silva), a handsome street mechanic who discovers his gravy train has just rolled in. Armando is assaulted by Sliva during their first encounter; later he lures Silva into his home, developing a curious fatal fascination with him that is eventually reciprocated.
An intriguing study of two men locked in irresistible attraction and impossible love, From Afar is a portrait of loneliness and intimacy, full of unpredictable menace. Packed with violent, compulsively watchable action, great locations and a compelling story – it's an amazing debut.
From Afar (Desde Allá) is an ICA exclusive film project.
