Pixar’s epic animation of miniature proportions is a vivid retelling of Aesop’s fable The Ant and The Grasshopper, which follows an enthusiastic inventor ant as he travels to the city in search of help in order to protect his colony.

When his ant colony comes under attack, idealistic young Flick sets off to recruit animals who will help defend their honour and lives, having become sick and tired of being forced to hand over their midsummer grain to a marauding band of grasshoppers, led by the evil Hopper (voiced by Kevin Spacey). Heading for the big city, Flick happens upon a disgraced troupe of circus bugs who, mistaking him for a talent scout, readily agree to join him. But as the prospect of fighting off Hopper and his gang becomes real, it’s clear neither party is fully aware of what they're getting themselves into!

Teeming with vivid creatures standing on their own countless feet, this heart-warming widescreen exposé of a small organic world, is full of so much remarkable detail, fun and playful joy, you can’t fail to be entertained.

  • Before the film why not make a morning of drawing and story creation, exploring the tiny creatures that live underground in our Bugs Unplugged Making workshop (Fri 4 Aug 10:00 - 12:00).
