Coming nearly a decade after A Bug's Life, this hilarious animated comedy proved there's still plenty of buzz around computer-generated creepy-crawlies.

Young Barry is a honey bee from New Hive City, rebelling against the prospect of a life spent toiling away for the Honex corporation. On a foray into Manhattan, he meets an insect-loving florist called Vanessa (voiced by Renée Zellweger), and the pair strike up an inter-species friendship that is strictly forbidden in his world. But when Barry shockingly discovers that humans can purchase honey right off the grocery store shelf, he decides to sue them for stealing all of the sweet stuff that the bees work so hard to produce.

Smart and sassy, Bee Movie was the first high-profile big-screen venture for comedian Jerry Seinfeld, who co-wrote the screenplay and provides the voice for the story's hero. And with a host of other great voice cameos (including John Goodman, Chris Rock and Sting, naturally), this hilarious animated adventure truly is, the bees knees.

  • Before the film why not create a miniature, hand-made bee hotel to provide habitat for solitary bees in your garden or allotment in our Bee Hotel Making workshop. (Fri 1 Sept 10:00 - 12:00).
