Good technical skill and bursting with charm

  • Amazing and totally unexpected! On a technical level, the animation, music, sound and lighting all are all so embedded into the feel of the film and work perfectly together. ‘Winnow’ has a pay off that feels like an added bonus rather than a punch-line moment the whole film rests upon which I see far too often in films of this length. The film itself is charming, funny and thought-provoking with strangely dark undertones during the excellent cathartic animation sequence in which the man undergoes an internal transformation before his physical transformation, with visual cues hinting to the audience the importance of letting go of the superfluous things in life that hold us down and keep us from feeling a sense of primal wonder and connection to things we feel stupid about feeling connected to. At least that’s the message I took away from ‘Winnow’… I found the whole film to be an intelligent and affecting piece of magical realism. I loved it!!
