Leaving Limbo Landing by Caroline Bowditch

Leaving Limbo Landing is an ambitious new outdoor production by Caroline Bowditch performed in air, in water and on land.

‘Arriving in the UK about 10 years ago, I experienced a period in my life where I felt like I was in completely suspended animation – a state of limbo – hovering over a new strange land – knowing that I couldn’t move forward and I couldn’t go back – a real uncertainty of where to put myself in the world – nowhere really feeling ‘right’ or comfortable.’ Caroline Bowditch.

Leaving Limbo Landing explores journey, placement, displacement, settling, arrivals and departures.

‘Landing is about those first moments of really making contact with the ground. How do people land? Gently, crash landing? How long does landing take?’

12 East Londoner’s stories of choosing (or not) where to settle provides the catalyst for a powerful performance by an all female cast of dancers and aerialists, with amazing costumes by Abby Grewcock and a newly commissioned soundtrack by Christopher Benstead. Not to mention a large set featuring a giant water wall.

Supported by East London Dance, the ‘unlimited’ title could not be more apt for this ambitious artist who has dreamt up a spectacularly large-scale project without limits!

Two 90 second films are now available on Leaving Limbo Landing – the original on from the Push Me Collection and the second, on the Journey so far.

Leaving Limbo Landing has been commissioned by the Unlimited Programme, part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

This project is part of the London 2012 Festival, is a 12 week nationwide celebration running from June 21st 2012 until the final day of the Paralympic Games on 9th September 2012.
