A dance that is never seen. Alone at home, we give it our all, our best moves and best performance… ever! An extraordinary event, a real-sized luminous house and 18 eclectic performers. In a rare glimpse of a personal world you will be entertained by a host of good music, see some very fine dancing, and be offered the treat of watching alone.
Herald Angel Award winner Private Dancer plays with our expectations and emotions through unique choreography created by some of Scotland’s best disabled dancers. The immersive hour long performance, takes place in and around a specially designed and purpose built ‘house’, a realistically scaled luminous installation, containing 5 different rooms. Each room is filled with personal memorabilia, belonging to a solo disabled dancer, who inhabits and performs there to an audience of one. This intimate performance arena opens a portal to a normally unseen, unknown perspective of a person.
Private Dancer is a be-spoke event that re-invents itself in each new location in which it performs. The company, who are never the same twice, are a deliberate mixture of disabled, non-disabled, professional and first time performers, all arriving by different means for different reasons, some invited, and some by chance and circumstance. Greeted by a genial host the power balance shifts, as the audience, our guests, are invited to cross a threshold literally and metaphorically and enter the glorious domain of the dancer. We might let you in….!
Two 90 second films are now available on Private Dancer – the original on from the Push Me Collection and the second, on the Journey so far.

Private Dancer follows the thread of the disabled dancer as the main protagonist in their own work. The experience is one of artistic control that develops and liberates what each person has to offer as creator and inventor. Directed by Janice Parker.
