Unlimited Global Alchemy is led by Rachel Gadsden with the Bambanani artist-activist group from South Africa; Nondumiso Hlwele, Noloyiso Balintulo, Bongiwe Mba, Thobani Ncapai, Thozama Ndevu and Zodwa Somlayi – all from Khayelitsha Township.

The politics and myths surrounding chronic health conditions and in particular HIV / AIDS, fragility, resilience and survival against the odds are at the heart of this poignant collaboration.

Works created both in South Africa and the UK include a body of paintings and drawings by Rachel Gadsden and the Bambanani Group; with films, catalogues, performance, talks and workshops involving twenty collaborators from across the world including choreographer Athina Vahla and Freddie Opoku-Addaie as performer.

Heartfelt, irreverent and provocative, Unlimited Global Alchemy vividly conveys the resilience of the human spirit and strength of social action in the face of adversity.

Produced by Artsadmin, Unlimited Global Alchemy is part of Festival 2012; launching at the Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology in Cambridge and culminating at the Southbank during the Paralympics in London. Unlimited Global Alchemy was co-commissioned by the British Council.
