Pick of the Week: Urban Arts Space
Find out what’s on the Rife Guide this week, including three courses to help you improve your creative skills.
You learn everything you need to in school, right? Wrong! There are tons of opportunities to learn new things outside the classroom and improve your creative skills.
Creative Youth Network are running three brilliant courses, open to anyone aged 13-16. Over eight weeks, you’ll learn all about the creative pursuit of your choice: Music Production, Photography or Film Making.
Wannabe-Woody-Allens are invited to the Film Making course – no experience is necessary, just an interest in video. The course is running on Mondays, at The Station. You’ll work with a professional tutor, and will get the chance to use cameras, sound equipment, lighting and editing software. By the end of the course, you and your group will have created your own unique short film.
Fancy yourself as the next Dr Dre? The Music Production course is on Wednesdays in Kingswood. You’ll meet a bunch of other young people with a passion for music, plus you’ll be mentored by industry professionals who know exactly what it takes to make it in this tough creative industry. The course will show you how to make music and remix other people’s tunes too.
Budding photographers should make sure they’re free on Thursdays – the Photography course runs in Kingswood. Professional mentors with years of experience will show you how to use a range of cameras, both film and digital. You don’t need to have your own camera to attend, but if you do have one, bring it along to practice with. At the end of the course, your best photographs will be printed out and exhibited.
Anyone who participates in these courses can work towards their bronze Arts Award – a qualification that you can put on your CV.
The courses all start this week, and run for 8 weeks. The courses are free, but you’ll need to book in advance if you want to attend. Full details of all three courses – Music Production, Photography and Film Making – and how to book onto them can be found on the Rife Guide.
