The wait is finally over; the countdown has come to a glorious end. It’s here. Hooray for half-term. The rain just keeps on coming but instead of a soggy walk to school, you can enjoy those weather warnings from the comfort of your home. Now’s your chance to celebrate the arrival of this glorious week of lie-ins. We have brought you not one pick of the week, but seven – so you have no excuse not to get out there and do something other than hibernate beneath the duvet. Or, if you’re feeling particularly motivated, then why not try and see them all?


Celebrate LGBT History Month with this creative two-day workshop. If you want to jazz up your social media presence, learn the skills to create exciting online content like GIFs, memes, and Instagram videos while talking about an important subject. The workshops are on Monday and Tuesday at Watershed. They’re totally free, and you can just drop in.


Channel your inner Tarzan and get adventurous with this day of outdoor activities from Young Bristol. Learn navigation and map reading skills in a challenge to ‘beat the clock’- trying your best not to get lost. Learn survival skills such as shelter building, fire lighting and the tried and true sport of archery. Taking place all day Tuesday, you can book your place here.


Experience the transformative power of love in this magical Japanese animation film, Howl’s Moving Castle. To kick off Watershed’s Japanese Touring Film Programme, the film is screening every day until Friday. Spectacular adventure, extraordinary characters and stunning hand-drawn artistry from master Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki – this is a film not to be missed.


Want to experience a BBC Radio 6 Music Festival event for free? St George’s Bristol and Bristol Women in Music and have combined forces for an inspiring afternoon. Listen to stories from key female figures within the music industry and gain guidance for the next generation of women leaders. The event is on Saturday, book yourself a free ticket.


With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to celebrate love and friendship in all its glory. Stoke’s Valentine’s Party is the place to be if you want to have fun this Feb 14th. Except it’s on Feb 12th. Come and experience a live DJ, mocktails, a bar, food and games at The Stokes Youth Club. Showcasing artwork from students at 18 different School’s in Bristol, The annual Senior Schools’ Art Exhibition is the biggest yet. The exhibition is open every day up until Tuesday 16th Feb when there will be prizes for the best work. Everyone is welcome, and it’s totally free.


If Jamaica is the father of Dancehall, then Wilfred Limonius is the father of Dancehall Art. In Fine Style showcases a diverse selection of work from Jamaican designer, illustrator and artist Wilfred Limonious. Despite being widely recognised in reggae and dancehall circles, his illustrations are relatively unknown in the wider art world. So go explore. At Colston Hall all week, and it doesn’t cost a penny.
