Grayson Perry’s ‘The Most Popular Exhibition Ever!’ is at the Arnolfini until 24th December, 2017
Grayson Perry has brung his awesome exhibition to Bristol and we’re loving it. It’s so justly called, ‘The Most Popular Art Exhibition Ever!’ and it tackles one of Perry’s primary concerns: how contemporary art can best address a diverse cross section of society. On show for the first time outside of London, the exhibition is central to the autumn season at Arnolfini and a programme of events inspired by Perry’s irreverent take on contemporary culture. Off The Record are hosting a load of creative and well-being workshops this half-term and you just have to be there. Our particular favourite is ‘Happy Food’. Did someone say food? We sure did. From 12 -2pm, you will join David as you find out how food can boost your mood. Wait, there’s more; they’ll provide the food and you can bring the mood. Just drop by to Off The Record to claim your place. Simple as pie.

Raise the Bar is back at Watershed for the October edition of its acclaimed spoken word event, and this month also marks Raise the Bar’s 3RD BIRTHDAY! To celebrate the occasion an all-star line-up will be coming to Bristol including MiKo Berry, Sara Hirsch and Daniel Piper also hosted by Craft-D and Connor Macleod. With its regular monthly slot at Watershed, each Raise the Bar show promises to be a completely different and unique experience. Or if that’s not your gig (quite literally), get involved with the ‘Jump into …Skateboard Design’ two day course at Knowle West Media Centre on 25th and 26th of October. If you’re interested in developing your creative skills, illustration or skateboarding and you want to create your own unique skateboard, this is a good shout. You’ll learn how to use design software Inkscape at KWMC: The Factory to create your own digital design and etch it into the skateboard deck using a laser cutter. In addition to this, you’ll create bespoke Grip tape art to add to the top of the Canadian Maple board. The boards are 8″ standards. This course costs £25 for the two days (which covers the cost of materials and the skateboard), however don’t fret over the price as there are some bursaries available – contact KWMC for more details. Based on Neil Gaiman’s best-selling book and helmed by The Nightmare Before Christmas director Henry Selick, this ace stop-motion family fantasy follows an adventurous girl who, after moving into a new home with her family, discovers a portal to a strange and seemingly better world. Creative Journalling. Another creative and well-being event from Off The Record – they’re on fire this week. Learn how to use images and art to explore how you’re feeling. You’ll be trying lots of different methods – there’ll be something for everyone. Head down to Off The Record between 2pm – 4pm to get in on the action.
Saturday, 28th October 2017:
Are you the next Banksy? Come and experience spraying stencil art first-hand, and spray your own artwork(s).This is a fantastic opportunity to spray your own artwork using laser cut stencils and ‘safe’ water-based spray paints. All abilities and ages can have a go, as these sessions are geared towards offering a chance to ‘get your hands on the cans’, a level 1 experience for everyone, plus you get a souvenir artwork or artworks to take home. A place cost £10 – the ticket price includes attendance at the session for the opportunity to spray your own work.
