Somebody’s Child: an expression of love
Interweaving dance and spoken word, Tim’s debut solo film Somebody’s Child is a moving, poignant and uplifting expression of love created in response to her mother’s illness.
Many of us have loved ones who have gone through, or are currently going through, the ordeal of an awful illness. Yet we rarely talk about it. In Somebody’s Child, debut solo filmmaker Tim Lo confronts this stigmatized subject matter, asking, ‘what are the thoughts that run through your head? What are the the feelings, the fears, all the things you’ve never said?’
By conveying some of her secrets and her deep longing to support her mother, Tim hopes to spark that conversation you’ve always wanted to have but never got round to. The things you’d like to tell someone who’s taken care of you, given you love and support all these years, but you never knew how.
When our loved ones lose their strength and can no longer support us, it’s our turn to support them, and each other. To read more of Tim’s thoughts, read her personal essay here.
This piece is dedicated to my mother,
to anyone who is living with ill health,
and to everyone supporting loved ones with critical illnesses.
