Ben Wheatley on Free Fire

We chatted to director Ben Wheatley about his latest film, Free Fire, ahead of its run here at Watershed.
There was a palpable sense of excitement at Watershed (among cinema-goers and staff) when acclaimed director Ben Wheatley came to visit us in February for a preview of his latest film Free Fire.
As well as introducing the film to a packed out audience, he gave a hilarious Q&A after the screening with Portishead's Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury (who both scored Free Fire), a recording of which you can watch here. During the Q&A they talked about everything from their initial meeting through Twitter, getting hold of and using ABBA’s music, to how many bullets were shot in the film. Spoiler: it’s a lot.
In between all of that we managed to grab a few minutes with Ben tell us a little more about the film, plus how it feels to create something that doesn’t make people groan at the end of a screening.
Free Fire screens at Watershed from Friday 31 March. Visit Free Fire’s film page for more information, screening times, and tickets
