Charles Dickens probably needs little introduction. An English writer and critic, he is generally regarded as the greatest novelist of the Victorian period, and his fictional characters remain to this day some of the most memorable in the world.

He has attracted enduring praise from scholars and critics for his realism, satirical caricatures, and his passionate advocacy on behalf of children and the poor. His works have never gone out of print, and have been continuously adapted for the screen since the invention of cinema.

CEO of Film London Adrian Wootton explores Dickens' work in cinema, discussing various adaptations and asking how well cinema has treated the author’s work.

Adrian Wootton is the Chief Executive of Film London and the British Film Commission. Prior to this, Adrian was Acting Director of the British Film Institute (BFI), in addition to having been the Director of the London Film Festival (LFF), the National Film Theatre (NFT) and Head of BFI Exhibition.
