Filmmaker Focus: Marie-Elsa Sgualdo
Marie-Elsa Sgualdo is one of Switzerland’s most talked-about young filmmakers. She graduated from the Haute École d'Art et de Design in Geneva and the Institut National Supérieur des Arts du Spectacle in Brussels, and also co-founded the Terrain Vague collective. This award-winning director’s short films have been screened at Locarno and the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight. Marie-Elsa is currently writing her first feature.
In this Q&A event Sgualdo speaks to Marcel Müller of Swiss Films. During the session the audience had the chance to see four of her short films and hear about her career and body of work.
Sgualdo explains why it was important to her to study at an art school rather than a film school, talks about her style and creative choices, and why she focuses on what it means to be young today.
Marcel Müller is the Project Leader for Swiss Films, he programmes films in Switzerland and further afield, organising the logistics of festivals, tours and markets.
This event was presented by Swiss Films as part of the Encounters Short Film And Animation Festival 2013 Focus on Switzerland.
