Home For Christmas Q&A
Based on a book of the same name from award-winning author and Bristol resident Cally Taylor, Home for Christmas tells the tale of 24-year-old Beth Prince (Bristol actress April Pearson, of Skins fame) who is obsessed by film and has a dream job working in local independent cinema Duke of York. Beth longs for a fairy tale ending to her never-ending quest for love, and desperate to hear those three important words 'I love you' from new boyfriend Aiden, she takes her happily ever after into her own hands.
We were delighted to welcome the author of the book, as well as cast and crewmembers from the film, to tell us more about the project. To introduce the screening, Taylor talked about being approached to adapt her work for the big screen. After the screening, Rich Warren from Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival was joined on stage by Director Jamie Patterson, Producer and actor Lucy Griffiths, and the two leads Karl Davies and April Pearson.
An unashamedly charming film that harks back to a previous age of British filmmaking, Home For Christmas is "a story about friendship and love that makes us smile", says Patterson, who never intended to work on a Christmas movie, but who, after reading the book, knew it would make the perfect film adaptation. Using his 134-page script, the cast and crew worked tirelessly for 12 days and nights to bring this cool and quirky story to life in and around Brighton and the Duke of York cinema.
Watch this video and learn how the team fared during this intense process and gain a particularly honest insight into financing, making and promoting an independent film on a shoestring.
