The Films of Roberto Schaefer ASC AIC

Roberto Schaefer is a pre-eminent and respected Hollywood Director of Photography who began in the independent sector in Italy and has filmed everything from independent comedies like Best in Show to large franchises like the Bond movie, Quantum of Solace. He worked with Johnny Depp on Finding Neverland, Nicole Kidman on The Paperboy, Gerard Butler on Machine Gun Preacher and photographed less star-driven movies like The Kite Runner. He most recently shot the British TV comedy, Family Tree, directed by Christopher Guest.

Roberto has used all the big film formats and increasingly their digital equivalents. In this gala event Schaefer discusses the effect of moving from film to digital formats, and looks back through his career, presenting a series of clips and stories.

This event is hosted by Terry Flaxton, Professor of Cinematography at the University of the West of England, formerly a Director of Photography himself.

This event was presented by D I R E C T, part of the University of the West of England, as part of Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival 2013.
