Right on the money: Funding your short film

BFI Film Academy Labs | Right on the money: Funding your short film

You’ve got the creative vision sorted for your short film, but now you’re faced with finding the money to make it a reality. There are so many different ways to find funding, from self-financing, to crowd-funding, to working with government funders or private organisations. But where do you start?

At the July BFI Film Academy Lab, our panellists taught you everything you need to know about funding your short films. They discussed where to look for funding opportunities, how to apply for money, and the best techniques for helping funders understand your ideas.

They pin-pointed specific funding opportunities that are tailored towards young, aspiring filmmakers, and explained how to use a pitch deck to your advantage to effectively sell yourself and your project.

Panellists:

Gwenfair Hawkins – Development Executive, Ffilm Cymru Wales

Justine Owens – Business Manager, Shore Scripts

Heather Swift Hunt – Senior Director of International, Kickstarter

Emmanuel Li – Filmmaker

Hosted by Loran Dunn – Producer, Delaval Film

This event is part of the Business of Film strand of BFI Film Academy Labs 2021/22.
