    Reframing Film Heritage

    Watershed

A practice based session designed to inspire and challenge cinema and archive practitioners to think about reframing film heritage in more inclusive ways that opens up meaningful dialogue.

There’s plenty to learn from organisations and practitioners that have stepped – or enthusiastically jumped – off well-trodden paths to create a space for audiences to (re)discover and reframe lesser known materials. How might showing a wider range and depth of perspectives impact on organisations and future approaches to programming and audience development?
Windrose Rural Media Trust

If we shift our perspective, to no longer assume that Hollywood and the West is at the centre of film history, a different picture begins to emerge both on and off screen.

Expect a series of short provocations from guest speakers including Jemma Desai (Founder of I am Dora), The Final Girls, Sally Griffith (Anim18), Dr Shawn Sobers (Associate Professor of Lens-based Media at UWE) and writer/curator Karen Alexander. This is a space for conversations about individual challenges and best practice in this area, navigating how we might collectively go about reframing film heritage in the context of BFI2022.

This is a BFI Film Audience Network event co-presented with Film Hubs North and South West and support from the National Lottery and STUDIOCANAL. It is free to members of the BFI Film Audience Network.
