‘If climate is not in your story, then it’s science fiction
‘Aimed at screenwriters, directors and producers based in the south west of England (see region map on our FAQs page), this two-hour online conference will feature guest speakers from BAFTA, Climate Spring and the BFI Filmmaking Fund, who will outline the impact you – as a storyteller – can make in affecting change, influencing thought and encouraging debate.
Using case studies from UK film and TV, we’ll ask questions such as: how can you weave climate and sustainability into a narrative in an authentic and subtle way (think ‘planet placement’, themes, locations)? How can small changes to a script make a big impact? Have you ‘read the room’ – is now the right time to tell this story? How can genre lend itself to important messaging?
You’ll leave the session empowered with new ideas and resources, a greater understanding of the responsibility and power you hold as a storyteller, and ways to consider the (environmental) impact of your words.
