Comedy Genuis

The BFI’s blockbuster season for 2018 is the UK’s greatest ever celebration of film and TV comedy – bringing the gift of laughter just when we need it most! From October to December the comedy geniuses of the big and small screen will be making us laugh at BFI Southbank and cinemas across the UK, online on BFI Player and with a wide range of UK partners. Look below at the support available for film exhibitors wishing to take part, and how to apply.

Support available

Major Programmes support is open to all FAN members who want to take part in the season, via two funding programmes:

  • EOI applications (between £1,000 – £30,000) are now closed
  • Screening Support (£150 – £1,500) is now open on a rolling basis until 3 Dec 2018, unless funds are exhausted earlier

The season is also supported by The Independent Cinema Office (ICO) who will be offering a booking menu of related titles at negotiated rates. The ICO touring package is being finalised and should be available shortly – please email for more information.

Highlights for FAN members

  • Potential to ‘scale up’ your ideas with regional and National partners, aligning with wider activity
  • Touring package – 10 titles curated by the ICO, available to FAN members, with support available to enhance programming via major programmes funding
  • Theatrical re-releases of classic titles including: Some Like it Hot (1959), 9 to 5 (1980)
  • On screen talent, interviews and events across the UK
  • National campaign, assets with targeted support for regional and digital press
  • Support for special events & seasons through dedicated funding
