3 Minutes of Silence

Two young girls find hope & friendship in the most unlikely of places, a moss side boxing gym. Manchester. A young girl, Jane, struggling with her mental health & an absent home life needs someone, anyone, a friend.  A chance meeting at a bus stop leads her to Tisha & a boxing gym run by her father. Tisha is surrounded by a bustling world of colour  & noise but is yearning for another life. We all want to be accepted & to belong. We all want to be heard & to be free listen to silence, it has much to say.

I wanted to investigate the generational nature of trauma and depression in young adults. Half of all mental health problems manifest by age 14 .If not resolved then it can be passed on to further generations. I found my way through it, but without help I may not have. Children and adults living in households in the lowest 20% income bracket in Great Britain are two to three times more likely to develop mental health problems than those in the highest. This film is trying to open up a place for discussion to these issues. Often, they aren’t talked about. Directors Statement, Ben Price
