The Stroud Subscription Room

The Stroud Subscription Rooms were created by subscription by Stroud’s residents in 1883. Since then they have been at the heart of the town’s civic and cultural life, both literally and metaphorically. Over the years it has played host to the Beatles, Bob Geldof, Lenny Henry, Desmond Dekker and Rose Royce, and been an important venue on artists’ touring circuit.
The ‘Sub Rooms’ has historically been the leading cultural venue in the Stroud District, presenting a wide range of performances and events including music and gigs of all genres, theatre, comedy, dance and spoken word. It also holds a number of community based events and offers classes and workshops and a range of exhibitions.
