Beyond Boundaries 360 2020

Do you want to put on your own film screenings?

Need some help to get started?

Join Beyond Boundaries 360, a collaborative network and skills development opportunity aimed at individuals and small organisations based in the South West who are under-represented in the cinema sector, particularly people of colour, disabled people, LGBTQI people, women and those from low socio-economic backgrounds.

Beyond Boundaries 360 is completely free and is a space to share, discuss, and discover.  Through this group you can develop your practice as a film curator, programmer or event producer and gain the skills and confidence to plan and deliver your own film screening events.

About Beyond Boundaries 360

The focus of this activity is in supporting those who are interested in putting on film screenings or engaging audiences in discussion and dialogue through cinema (or small screen) experiences.

We are particularly interested in helping to shine a light on different and diverse cinematic stories and engaging new audiences with cultural film (beyond mainstream blockbusters).

Through a collaborative approach we aim to shape a programme of skills development support, networking opportunities and match-making to foster a new generation of exhibitors working alongside, in partnership with, or supported by, existing cinema organisations or film festivals.

What will I get out of Beyond Boundaries 360?

Through Beyond Boundaries 360 you will have the opportunity to spend time with a peer network and to access support, including skills development workshops covering topics such as curation, event producing, community engagement, fundraising, budgeting and social media. You will also have access to one-to-one mentoring and knowledge exchange with your peers.

A small amount of funding will be available to support film screening events developed within the group.

As well as developing your own practice, you will be encouraged to work with the other participants of Beyond Boundaries 360 in developing one another’s ideas. Where possible, you will be supported to partner with cinema exhibition organisations in the South West.

Who is it for?

Ambitious and passionate individuals or small organisations, who currently feel under-represented in the film exhibition sector.  People of colour, people who consider themselves to have a disability, LGBTQI people and women and those from low socio-economic backgrounds are all under-represented in the film exhibition sector.

No previous experience of film programming or curation is necessary but we will ask you to come prepared to share your interest in film and ideas for film screenings with the group.

This opportunity is for people based in the South West region: Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, West of England, Hampshire, The Isle of Wight and The Isles of Scilly

When and how will Beyond Boundaries 360 run?

Until venues open again and we can meet in person, we will be running monthly meet-ups online to connect, share and discuss ideas.  In addition to these collective group sessions there will be more focused monthly workshops on specific areas of skills development such as curation, event producing and community engagement.

Meet-ups will take place every fourth Wednesday  at 12.30pm – 2pm starting on the 24th June. Workshops will take place monthly on Sunday afternoons starting in July, dates and programme to be announced in consultation with the group.

To register to join for our ZOOM meet ups sign up here.

If filling in forms is not your thing but you would like to be involved please email me on tiffany.h@watershed.co.uk to express your interest or call 07791 630 667 for a chat.
