Beyond Boundaries Fund

Got a great idea for a film event, programme or other cinema project, but finding it hard to get it off the ground? Starting out can be difficult, especially if you are from a background that under-represented in the film exhibition sector.

Beyond Boundaries is Film Hub South West’s rolling funding that invests in individuals and/or small grassroot organisations with a focus on those that are *underrepresented in the film exhibition sector.

Bringing together elements of funding and bespoke mentoring, Beyond Boundaries supports unique events and screenings by those individuals and/or small grassroots organisations; working towards a more inclusive, representative and thriving film exhibition sector with the support of BFI, awarding funds from The National Lottery.

If you are an individual and/or small grassroot organisations wanting to set up your own events and/or wanting to collaborate with a cinema or a festival in the South West* region, get in touch with us on email at filmhub@watershed.co.uk

What are we looking for?

New ideas for audience-facing cinema projects from South West based individuals with the potential to recognise and reflect the interests of diverse audiences for independent cinema. These ideas can be in their early stages of development as we can potentially support from concept to event delivery.

We’re particularly interested in supporting those that are currently under-represented in the film exhibition sector.  For example, you might be from a community that experiences racism, you did not go to university, you are a disabled person (as defined by the Equality Act 2010 or you might identify as LGBTQIA+. If you’re not sure where you fit into this, please get in touch.

Can you give us an example?

Calling for film exhibitors to connect with Beyond Boundaries

If you are a Film Hub Member (cinema, festival, arts venue, pop-up, etc.) and interested in working with some of the talented individuals who have been involved in Beyond Boundaries 360 past and present, we can help with introductions, and help explore bespoke support.

This is an exciting opportunity for film exhibitors to connect with creatives from across the South West with a wide range of expertise, ideas, and perspectives.

By bringing together established film exhibition partners with talented creatives, we believe that exhibitors can expand their programming offer, connect with talented creatives, and connect with new audiences as to play an important role in working towards a more inclusive sector here in the South West.  Please get in touch with us at filmhub@watershed.co.uk

How does the funding works for FAN member organisations?

The rolling fund enables organisations to support the professional development of the curator or event producer they work alongside. This can cover time, resources, and exploration through routes such as research, idea generation, mentoring, training, and exposure visits – right through to screenings.

Each project will be collaboratively shaped and co-created between the participant and organisation. Film Hub South West can help with the facilitation and timeline if required.

Projects can be ideas that are in their early stages of development, as we can support from concept to event delivery. for more information, get in touch with us at filmhub@watershed.co.uk
