Gender Rebels

Season

Please note : this season finished in April 2023

Slapstick Festival, Bristol's annual festival of silent and classic screen comedy, has teamed up with the internationally respected film historian Pamela Hutchinson, the award-winning performer, filmmaker and playwright Malaika Kegode and Bristol’s reigning City Poet Kat Lyons to present Gender Rebels.

This is a day-long programme looking at some of the wittiest ways in which movie-makers explored and disrupted gender roles during the 20th century. The line-up includes the 1918 film from Ernst Lubitsch I Don't Want To Be A Man which features fascinating post-screening panel discussion with Pamela, Malaika, Kat and pianist Meg Morley, as well as a special screening of Victor/Victoria.
