MyWorld Fellowship in Residence - Tech Futures: What's Next?
Closing Date: Mon 5 May, 09:00 BST
This is an opportunity to spend six months at Knowle West Media Centre (KWMC) located in Bristol’s Knowle West. We are inviting established creative technologists or artists/researchers who would be excited to deep dive into KWMC’s past digital arts and technology practices and use that lens to explore what matters now for community technology.
You will be immersed in a socially engaged arts and tech organisation who have been working in and with communities to make, critique and creatively use cutting edge tech for almost 30 years. For KWMC it has always been essential to ensure that communities, especially those most marginalised, are able to access, hack and creatively engage with the latest digital trends and new technologies.
Martha King, Creative Co-Director, KWMC says:
“We believe that to create equitable technologies for all, everyday people and people who are disproportionately marginalised need to be at the heart of tech innovation and have access to the means of production. This Fellowship is an exciting and unique opportunity for someone to help us imagine tech futures in a community setting.”
We will award one person £12,000 for six months at 2.5 days/week face to face. You will be contracted and paid via the University of Bristol but managed by Watershed and the team at KWMC.
Our MyWorld Fellowships are aimed at freelancers, practitioners, industry folk, and academics based in the West of England. They offer paid experimentation and research time, with an emphasis on collaboration and interdisciplinary working. You will be bringing an existing practice, expertise or other relevant experience and are looking to apply that in an organisational setting with the view to share learnings more publicly with peers.
MyWorld believe our work will be stronger with greater diversity and welcome applications from those who are currently underrepresented in the culture, technology and higher education sectors. We understand that each of us brings our experiences, our backgrounds and our own unique lens to what we do so no one is expected to represent any specific groups.
This Fellowship is hosted by Knowle West Media Centre. An arts centre and charity supporting people to make positive changes in their lives and communities, using technology and the arts to come up with creative solutions to problems and explore new ways of doing things.
This Fellowship is part of the the MyWorld IDEAS programme, funded by UKRI.
The application process:
You are invited to answer four questions on an online form focusing on how you meet the criteria for the Fellowship in residence, and how you can build care into the process.
Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to interview with members of the MyWorld partnership and KWMC.
