Announcing MyWorld Fellowships in Residence

Posted on Fri 21 Oct 2022

We are delighted to launch our first two Fellowships in Residence – one at Ultraleap and the Pervasive Media Studio, the other at Bristol Old Vic and the Pervasive Media Studio – as part of MyWorld.

The Ultraleap Fellowship will prototype hand tracking gestures for home VR gaming, and the Bristol Old Vic Fellowship will develop approaches to digital presentation of theatrical performance, focusing on liveness, immersion in digital formats and connecting live and digital audiences.

Both Fellowships are aimed at freelancers, practitioners, industry, and academics. They are intended to be a period of collaborative thinking and experimentation, applying practice, expertise, or relevant experience.

  • Ultraleap Fellowship in Residence
£20,000 for 10 months at roughly 2.5 days/week. We are inviting artists, user experience designers, technologists and creative practitioners with C# programming and Unity experience to apply. Apply by Mon 14 Nov.

  • Bristol Old Vic Fellowship in Residence
£14,000 for seven months at roughly 2.5 days/week + £1,000 for expenses, with periods of more intensive engagement. Apply by Mon 14 Nov.

These Fellowships are an opportunity to support experimentation, explore the ethical development questions that arise and spend time thinking about how to create meaningful experiences for audiences, ask questions and test high-risk ideas.

Fellowships also offer the opportunity to test and question how technologies are or could be applied, placing people, arts and culture at the heart of new, innovative technologies.

Vanessa Bellaar Spruijt, Watershed Producer, said:

“Unlike more traditional Fellowships, we are encouraging people to make things and be part of an active network of people with extraordinary skills and expertise. We are very excited to open opportunities to bring together research and industry to experiment.”

More Fellowship calls will be announced throughout the year – sign up to MyWorld’s newsletter to hear more about them.

The Fellowships are part of the MyWorld IDEAS programme, funded by UKRI. Read more about MyWorld. MyWorld is funded through UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) ‘Strength in Places fund’.

Main Delivery partners: University of Bristol, University of the West of England, University of Bath, Bath Spa University, Digital Catapult, Watershed, Aardman Animations, Lux Aeterna, Esprit Film and Television, Bristol Old Vic and Opposable Games.
