Fresh Flix, presented in partnership with Encounters International Film Festival, is back with a fantastic programme of film, music, masterclasses and slam poetry for young people, children and their families, throughout November at Watershed and Arnolfini.
It all kicks off on Tue 1 Nov with a free BAFTA Masterclass (for young people between 15 - 30 years old) with screenwriter and playwright Tony Marchant who will be in town to present a preview of his new BBC drama Public Enemies. Tony will discuss his approach to writing award-winning drama for the screen using selected scenes from his previous work to illustrate his points.
Whether you're into music (What's The Score? Film Scoring Workshop with improvisational maestro Tony Orrell on Sat 12 Nov and Music South West on Sat 26 Nov) or filmmaking BFI Future Film presents...The Winning Pitch on Sun 20 Nov and Mini Masterpieces - Telling Stories Together on Sun 20 Nov) or slam poetry (Bristol Premiere of Award-winning Louder Than A Bomb all the way from Chicago on Mon 28 Nov), Fresh Flix really has got it all covered.
As well as the masterclasses and events you can also simply sit back and catch some classic cinematic portraits of adolescence including Persepolis (Sun 13 Nov), Shane Meadow's powerful This Is England (Sun 27 Nov) and Ken Loach's masterpiece Kes (Sun 20 - Thu 24 Nov). Finally if you were wondering what on earth the big picture of the dog at the top of the page has to do with all of this...thanks to our friends at Showcommotion Young People's Film Festival in Sheffield we have a screening of Red Dog, (Sun 27 Nov) an adaptation of the best-selling novel by Louis de Bernieres (Captain Corelli's Mandolin.) which follows the life and times of a scrappy stray, the real-life legend of the title: Red Dog.
Hannah Higginson, Watershed's Engagement Producer said:
'Fresh Flix is a great way for young people to get a taste for what they most enjoy doing - whether it's animation, filmmaking, music, poetry or writing a script. Workshops are free so this really is an ideal opportunity for young people to get involved and get their own creative work showcased as part of a international film festival. I can't wait to see what they produce.'
All Fresh Flix screenings are just £2.00 per screening for all under 18-year-olds – and all the masterclasses and workshops are FREE! Check out the whole Fresh Flix programme here.
Fresh Flix culminates with the launch of Electric December, Watershed’s original end of year online showcase of creative talent featuring shorts from young filmmakers across Europe. Visit electricdecember.org every day from Thu 1 Dec to unwrap a selection box of short films.
