The Pervasive Media Studio is Watershed’s city-centre research space that brings together a network of over 100 artists, technologists and academics to explore the future of mobile and wireless media. Since opening in 2008, it has been situated in nearby Anchor Square.
On Fri 28 Oct, the community of residents at the Pervasive Media Studio will move to a bigger, exciting space within Watershed. This new location and expansion marks the start of an extended partnership with both the University of Bristol and University of the West of England.
Clare Reddington, Director of the Studio, said:
"The expansion of the Studio and our new partnership with the two universities heralds an exciting time for Watershed and is yet another example of Bristol's excellence in combining new technologies and creative content. The first three years of the Studio have been a great success and we have established significant profile through collaborations with AntiVJ, PIAS, Luke Jerram, Calvium, Microsoft and Samsung to name a few. The new partnership gives us more room and enables us to be closer to Watershed's audiences but most importantly, helps us to diversify and achieve even greater results than we could on our own."
The Pervasive Media Studio was established in 2008 in Leadworks on Anchor Square, as a partnership between Watershed and HP Labs, with support from South West Regional Development Agency. In 2009, University of West of England became a partner in the Studio, and located its Digital Cultures Research Centre within the space.
Over the past year, Watershed, University of Bristol and University of West of England have sought ways to strengthen their partnership around a mutual interest in creative technologies and raising the profile of Bristol as a centre for innovation. This has also included partnership in the REACT Creative Economy Hub.
Please note: There is no Lunchtime Talk on Fri 28 Oct, but the series will return in the new space with a talk from Squidsoup on Fri 4 Nov.
