The Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting is the UK’s biggest national competition for playwriting. It is the search for great new plays and great writers, looking for scripts that are original and unperformed.
And he’s not the only local winner – fellow Pervasive Media Studio resident Sharon Clark also won one of three Judges Awards of £8,000 for her script, Plow. Sharon is Creative Director of Bristol-based immersive theatre company, Raucous – whose current production Ice Road (also scored by Tim X Atack) is now in the final week of its run. Sharon's previous works have been produced by Bristol Old Vic, Theatre 503, New Diorama and Arcola, and her winning script, Plow follows an African-American woman as she walks across the US and the media response to her journey.
Tim X Atack now joins the Bruntwood Prize’s prestigious alumni that includes leading UK playwrights, and will receive £16,000 and Heartworm will be co-produced between the prestigious Royal Exchange and Royal Court theatres.
Tim X Atack said:
"It is the most amazing boost to my confidence as a writer and theatre-maker. I’m truly excited for conversations to begin about making a play I’m very proud of in a theatre I really love."
Sharon Clark commented:
“I'm thrilled to win one of the the Judges Awards and I'm excited about where it will lead me.”
Clare Reddington, Creative Director at Watershed commented:
"Ambition and innovation are at the heart of Watershed's creative programme, which is inspired and powered by the community of creatives we work with. We are delighted that the brilliance of long term Pervasive Media Studio residents Timothy X Atack and Sharon Clark has been recognised by the Bruntwood Prize judges, both of who joined us through our Artist Residence open call and continue to push the artistic boundaries of creative technology to make meaningful, magical work".
