This Summer we are super-excited to be joining forces with Bristol's newest venue Big Top@Creative Common for a unique creative summer school that will encourage kids to explore the world behind the cinema screen.
So if you have kids between 6 and 12 and you're looking for something fun for them to do, come and join us at Watershed for a four day extravaganza of insect inspired and circus themed films and workshops. The summer school climaxes in a very special performance by the participants and an immersive screening of Pixar/Disney classic A Bug's Life at the Big Top@Creative Common, right next to Temple Meads station.
Kids are welcome to join us all week, or just for a one-off workshop. Workshops include the chance to make music with improvisational maestro Tony Orrell; to see what it's like being a circus performer for the day with the Miren Circus Theatre; to be inspired to make your own insect puppet; or to have a go at song, games and physical theatre with Bakehouse Factory.
Flea to the Circus (Tue 28 - Fri 31 Aug) culminates in the kids performing in a special live showcase at the Big Top@Creative Common. Inspired by the heroically shambolic undercover circus performers in A Bug's Life - the Warrior Bugs - the showcase will certainly get the audience in the mood for our special screening of the Pixar/Disney family favourite on Fri 31 Aug, which is open to all.
Hannah Higginson, Watershed's Engagement producer says:
‘Flea to the Circus has given us at Watershed the chance to work with some of our favourite Bristol-based children’s workshop facilitators. What makes this summer school so special is that kids can do a different activity each day and will have the chance to perform in a circus Big Top at the end of the week. With special deals available and parents able to leave their kids with us this is a great value summer activity.’
The finale of the Creative Cinema Summer School is open to all ages - expect the unexpected at this family favourite. Presented in association with Encounters Short Film & Animation Festival and the BFI.
