Jocelyn Pook is best known for her soundtrack to Eyes Wide Shut but she is not a straightforward film composer, having collaborated extensively with filmmakers, choreographers, physical theatre practitioners and dance companies.

When composing and recording the unconventional soundtrack to her first film Blight, a piece about homes being demolished to clear the way for a 90s road-building project, she lived amongst the bulldozers and protestors in one of the houses which were the subject of the film. As the film's awards climbed into double figures it spawned a career that has seen her write soundtracks for films including Eyes Wide Shut, Gangs of New York, The Merchant of Venice and Brick Lane.

In this discussion event Jocelyn Pook speaks to Mark Cosgrove, Cinema Curator at Watershed, about her writing method and a career composing not only for features, documentaries and shorts, but also for theatre, performance artists, ballet and contemporary dance performances. She also tells the tale of putting renowned director Stanley Kubrick on hold to take another call!

This event was presented as part of Filmic '14, Watershed and St George's annual festival of film and music that celebrates the enduring relationship between music and moving image.
