The 7th edition of Cinema Rediscovered opens with a discussion inspired by Chantal Akerman’s Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles, which seized the top spot in Sight and Sound’s Greatest Films of All Time poll this year.

The session will look at what impact of Dielman topping the poll has had, what the history of her coming to this wider recognition tells us about the process of construction of cultural value of older films, and looking at the current context of film culture to ask the question “How do films become relevant in an era of social media ubiquity and streaming?”
