Whilst A Complete Unknown takes a more traditional biopic approach to a singular but crucial period in Dylan’s musical transformation, how do you capture the breadth of his creative range?
I’m Not There makes an excellent and definitive approach to Dylan’s artistic biography by having 6 people playing different aspects of his creative personae. They range from Ben Wishaw as French poet Arthur Rimbaud, Richard Gere as Billy the Kid and most strikingly Cate Blanchett as the wired iconic 1960s Dylan going through his electric transformation and grilled by press and fans alike.
If this wasn’t ambitious enough, I’m Not There has a brilliant soundtrack with the likes of Calexico, Cat Power, Mark Lanegan and Anthony & The Johnsons covering a host of Dylan songs.
