James is a partner in national law firm TLT LLP and heads their Digital practice, working with fast growth and institutional technology, media and telecoms clients on the development, protection and exploitation of technology and content. James also leads TLT's innovation programme, developing new technologies and services for clients' legal needs.

James has been a Board member of Watershed since 2003 and was Chair of the Board until March 2024 when he stepped back to being a Board Member.
