What happens when the leaders of your country set out to destroy your film history and culture? In the West archivists and historians battle to preserve and restore films from decay to bring to future generations. In Afghanistan, under Taliban rule, archivists were forced to burn the films of their country or face the penalty of death. Ibrahim Airy (along with his colleagues) buried and hid as many films as he could before leaving the country in exile.

Following their long battle to preserve Afghanistan’s film history and culture from being destroyed by the Taliban, Pietra Brettkelly’s award winning documentary follows Arify and a dedicated group of Afghans as they seek to find the hidden films and reorganise this rich and unique culture and history of film.
