"A scintillating satire on Italian provincial mores" - The Guardian
A darkly humoured send-up by one of Italy’s most prolific directors, The Birds, the Bees and the Italians brilliantly captures the conflicts and contradictions of "the ladies and gentlemen" of the Italian title. Fifty years after picking up the Palme d’Or at Cannes, we are delighted to present this new restoration following its anniversary relaunch at Cannes Classics strand this year. The small northern Italian town of Treviso provides the setting for three interweaving stories around sex and the sexes, and the humorous conflicts which naturally arise between the ‘liberated’ and repressed libidos of 60s Italian domestic life.
Introduced by Guy Borlée, part of the team at Cineteca di Bologna who were responsible for the restoration.
Presented by Cineteca di Bologna, Istituto Luce - Cinecittà, DEAR International. Restored by Cineteca di Bologna, Istituto Luce - Cinecittà and DEAR International at L’Immagine Ritrovata laboratory. With thanks to Hollywood classics.
This event is presented by Bologna’s Il Cinema Ritrovato the inspiration for Cinema Rediscovered with thanks to Cineteca Di Bologna.
